about the Old Nunnery

Overview of the Old Nunnery

Nestled on the banks of the river Clyde, the Old Nunnery is a spacious spa venue sleeping up to 24 guests.

Originally the Archbishops house, then a convent for over a century, it's a perfect blend of modern and quirky Victorian.

Ease into the day by watching the sea and marine life. The bedrooms, many with ornate 4 poster beds, are fit for princesses and provides a soothing environment for restful sleep. Across the 5 modern bathrooms, one has a traditional rolltop bath, allowing for lengthy soaks in beautiful essential oil blends.

Make the most of the dedicated massage room where spa treatments can take place in your pyjamas. Warm up and unwind in one of the 2 saunas, detox in the steam room and let the hot tub bubbles soothe away any aches and pains in the fairy lit log cabin, a secluded spot to the rear of the house. After a nice seaside walk to blow away the cobwebs, or a spa treatment, curl up in one of the 2 spacious lounges together and watch a movie in the huge 85 inch smart TV.

For cooking and dining, the huge kitchen boasts 2 range cookers, dishwashers as well as a wine fridge. With a cocktail bar area between this kitchen and your dining room, dinner parties are easily provided for. Grand BBQs are possible in our BBQ log cabin, or use this room toasting marshmallows in the fire as others are enjoying the hot tub. If you don’t want to lift a culinary finger, great value spa and catering packages allows a customised blend of self-catered/pampered.

.

Celebrate inside, chill outside!

With 3 large public rooms, massive 85" Smart home cinema sized TV, a home bar and an enormous kitchen, it's ideal for that family gathering, celebration or event! Outdoor areas are, to respect our neighbours,  quiet spaces for chilling and watching the world pass by.

.

Perfect seaside location

Fantastic seafront location with views to Bute, Arran and Cumbrae. Take a ferry to the islands, get the binoculars out to look for the local seals and birdlife or just chill and watch the cruise ships, subs, yachts ferries and even the paddle steamer Waverley as they pass by the window!

Outdoor swimming pool on your doorstep

Built in 1909 the Gourock Swimming Pool is One of only two outdoor pools remaining in Scotland it occupies a pretty spectacular location, right on the banks of the River Clyde, 12 minutes drive from Old Nunnery,  and looking across to the Argyll Hills. Its location is not just for show though as the water that fills the pool is actually taken from the Clyde itself. It's heated to a lovely warm minimum temperature of 30C. Like a nice bath.

Marine life on your doorstep

For nature enthusiasts, there are regular sightings of seals, dolphins and more on the river clyde which you can ofen see from the old nunnery bedrooms.
